I was invited by Mark Liddell at the Scotsman to join him on a trip to France to view and photograph the new Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II for the Scotsman Motoring supplement.
The location was the magnificent Cap Estel hotel in Èze near Monaco. Located on a peninsula by the Mediterranean Sea it was ideal setting to view one of the most luxurious cars in the world. From the moment we were met by our chauffeur at Nice airport and ushered into the back of a Rolls-Royce Ghost we got the feeling that this was going to be an extraordinary day – and it didn’t disappoint. After a relaxing lunch on the terrace of Cap Estel we met up with some of the Rolls-Royce specialists that hand craft nearly every aspect of the car. From wooden veneer inlays and embroidered leather to hand painted coachlines, Rolls-Royce say that eight out of ten customers order some form of bespoke customisation. We were then taken on a drive in the new Phantom up in to the steep hillsides above Cap Estel to photography the car with uninterrupted views overlooking the clear blue sea of the Mediterranean. All to soon though were being chauffeured back to the airport in another Ghost – a long trip for one day but one well worth it.
